This month is National Kidney Disease Awareness Month, and In light of this very serious disease, we will be exploring Kidney Disease, it's various Stages, Causes, Prevention, and how hypertension effects the kidney and can cause kidney failure...Attendees will be given hand outs of "Nutritional Do's and Don'ts", and We will also talk about various natural ways to help keep your hypertension in check. Join Kalandra Cooke-Goff, Ph.D. in this workshop and her Interactive & Hands-on Activity: We will learn to make lentil, black bean, or red bean lettuce burgers (If you would like to try a different bean you are welcome to bring your own cooked beans, we will also explore using seasonings to jazz up foods instead of the use of salt.

PLEASE NOTE: Because this is a Wellness Program and Your First Line of defense against illnesses is through your Nutritional intake. Therefore, healthy foods and Ingredients is the first thing the judges will be looking at. So try and remember this when shopping.
CRITERIA'S
you will be judged on:

(6) The best food Budget
"Rules"
- You must use a serving size of Protein, Complex Carbohydrate, 2 fruits or 2 veggies or mix and match fruits and veggies.
- You Must show receipts and/or Calculations of foods used.
- You must Name your Dish and whether you consider it (Breakfast, Brunch, Lunch, Dinner, Appetizer, Dessert, etc...)
- You must List Brands Used.
- You must List all ingredients.
- All Meats Must Be Zabiha (Slaughtered in accordance to the Islamic Law)
- No Alcohol By Product can be used. (look out for flavorings)
- No Pork By Product can be used. (look out for breads and dairy especially)
- You must make enough for 3 judges at least. You can make more to share with group if you wish.
- Your food must be prepared at home and brought to the center.
- You can use any seasonings and spices you like, but they must be counted in the budget.
